Purchasing a home is one the biggest decisions you will make in your lifetime, so it’s important to set yourself up for success. Our goal is to provide you with the information and resources you need to navigate the home-buying process and make informed decisions that support sustainable homeownership.

We want you to be truly educated about and prepared for owning a home…so that when you do buy one, you will be in it it for as long as you care to be. You can learn about housing counseling from our partner, CCCS of San Francisco (Balance), to help you think about homeownership.

Two resources that will help you prepare for homeownership are listed below. One is Framework, an online counseling program. The other is a directory of HUD-approved counseling organizations. Teach yourself online using Framework

Purchasing a home is a complex process. The online Framework counseling course will prepare you for the process. The Framework course is entirely online, start to finish. You can work on it when, where, and how you like. On your smart phone, during your lunch hour . . . whatever works best. It’s easy to stop and then pick up exactly where you left off.

Framework exceeds all HUD (U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development) and industry standards for homebuyer programs. Framework is also the only accepted on-line course for an affordable Fannie Mae mortgage. When you complete Framework, you get a printable certificate to show your lender. Most affordable mortgage products require completion of Framework.

Connect with a HUD approved counseling agency

HUD sponsors and approves housing counseling agencies throughout the country that can provide advice on buying a home. These counseling agencies cover the basic principles of the mortgage process including credit, home insurance, realtor selection, home inspection, contractors and closing.
