Address Yourself: Working Together To Create Sustainable Homeownership

Low-middle income families and individuals are entering into a deeply challenging housing market. The path to homeownership has never seemed so daunting and financially complicated! It is no surprise, then, that many families choose to rent rather than slog their way through the mortgage process for an uncertain goal. The dream of one day owning a home seems to many an improbable fantasy.

Negotiating the mortgage process might seem like a challenging process but with the right support system, you can transform the challenges into a source of pride, stability, and wealth. The “Address Yourself” program is a response to America’s affordable housing challenges. We integrate collaborative partners to create a support system that guides low-middle income families and individuals into sustainable homeownership. Under the umbrella of New Jersey Community Capital, a nonprofit community development financial institution, the Address Yourself support system incorporates HUD-approved counseling agencies – Navicore Solutions, Puerto Rican Action Board, and Consolidated Credit that specialize in credit repair and budgeting.

Address Yourself has partnered with three credit unions – Affinity Federal Credit Union, The Credit Union of New Jersey, and Greater Alliance Credit Unions to provide affordable mortgage products designed especially for Low-middle income families. Credit Unions are not-for-profit financial cooperatives whose earnings are paid back to members in the form of higher savings rates and lower loan rates. Credit Unions are run by members, for members – they’re an answer to the problems you’ve had with the big banks.

Finally, NJCC and its partners have created CUMAnet LLC, a credit union servicing organization that collects mortgage payments from borrowers on the behalf of the lender. The CUMAnet advantage is that its staff is used to working closely with housing counselors, and can ensure that your family has somewhere to turn if the need ever arises. The Address Yourself support system is freely available to educate, finance, and enable working families and individuals looking to take practical steps in their journey to homeownership.
